The Jaxon Effect Page 13
It was payback time and Kate was more than willing to allow him to even the score.
Kate slowly tied up her bathrobe. Her body was now so overwhelmed by their sex-a-thon that she was barely able to stand. Her energy reserve was at absolute zero. Grabbing her by the lapels of her robe, Jaxon stood up in front of her and touched his forehead to hers.
“I still have to feed you,” he reminded her.
“No I'm fine,” Kate replied, trying to stifle a yawn. “I can make us a couple of omelets if you like.”
“You weren't supposed to cook for me again. I was supposed to take you for dinner.”
“I don't really call making a couple of eggs cooking.”
“Well that may be the case,” he said, “but a deal is a deal. I made reservations for eight o'clock at a very nice Italian restaurant, but if you are too tired I can call and cancel.”
“No, it sounds wonderful.” She was hungry and, at the moment, pasta appealed to her appetite more than eggs did.
The restaurant—which went by the name Vincenzo's— was much more than a nice restaurant, it was extremely grand and despite being rather small in size, it was one of the best restaurants in Manhattan.
“This is where we are eating?” Kate asked, in awe as they drove up to the entrance.
“Yeah, is it okay? We can go somewhere else if you prefer.”
Kate appraised her plain outfit with scrutiny, beige cotton pants and a plain t-shirt. This restaurant probably required a dress code of elegant black evening wear. She felt completely underdressed. It was also one of the hardest restaurants to get a reservation in Manhattan. A doctor that she knew was forced to book a reservation two months in advance in order to take his wife there for their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary due to the long wait list.
“No, this is great. I just wish I had known this was where you were taking me. I would have worn something a little fancier.” A lot fancier.
“You look great,” he replied as the valet came up to the car and opened her door for her.
“How did you get a reservation in such a short period of time? I thought it took months to get in here.”
“The owner and I go way back,” he said with a smile. “Anyway, are you sure this is okay?”
Was he kidding her? It was amazing.
“It'll do,” she said, trying to sound like she went to these sorts of places all the time. “I mean, after all, it was a last minute thing. I think I can slum it this once.”
He grinned, acknowledging her attempt to be humorous.
A man greeted them the instant they walked through the front door.
“Mr. Remington,” the man said with a thick Italian accent. “So nice to see you this evening.”
“Thank you, Antonio.”
The man was fairly tall, which Kate thought unusual for an Italian. Most of the Italian men she knew were generally average to shorter in height.
“Your usual table is ready for you and I see you brought a guest this evening, how wonderful.”
“Yes,” Jaxon said. “This is Doctor Kate Sims.”
“Doctor Sims, it's a pleasure to meet you,” Antonio’s accent was an adorable broken English.
Antonio held Kate's hand and placed a small kiss on it. Kate shifted a glance at Jaxon and she could swear he didn't look pleased. She must have misunderstood. Surely he wasn't bothered by something as small as that.
Antonio ushered them to a two person table at the back of the restaurant; it was the furthest away from all of the other tables. A small candle was burning in the centre of the table top and a bottle of champagne rested in an ice bath beside the table.
“Shall I uncork your champagne for you now?” Antonio asked as he pulled out Kate’s chair for her and placed a white linen napkin on her lap.
“We can wait,” Jaxon replied as he sat down opposite Kate.
“Very well, Nicoletta will be over to take your order soon, enjoy,” he said. “Again, nice to meet you Doctor.”
“Likewise,” Kate replied before he left them alone.
“So, I assume based on your warm reception you must come here often.”
“I’m a good customer,” he admitted with a sexy smile.
“Jaxon Remington! My favourite customer!” The words came from the distance which caused Kate to look around.
Kate looked up to see his name had rolled off the tongue of a gorgeous woman who was coming their way. Her complexion was a beautiful olive-tone and she had the largest dark brown, almond-shaped eyes that Kate had ever seen. She wore a tight black skirt and a fitted black blouse, and her hair—a deep rich shade of brown—hung over her shoulders in waves. Her lips were full and covered with a dark red lipstick that suited her darker complexion. Kate could never pull off that shade of red; she was far too pale, or maybe just too self-conscious. Compared to this woman, Kate felt very plain. She wished she had chosen to wear something more formal like her little black dress.
“Nicoletta, you look beautiful this evening, as always,” Jaxon commented as the woman reached their table.
Kate noticed that Nicoletta’s cheeks turned pink and she bat her eyelashes at him. It struck a nerve.
“I would like you to meet my friend, Kate,” he said.
As if just noticing her for the first time, Nicoletta gave Kate a half smile and offered a curt hello. Kate could almost feel daggers coming out of this woman's eyes as she gave Kate the once over. She obviously had her designs on Jaxon and she didn’t even bother to hide it. Kate wanted to smack her.
“Shall I open your champagne?” Nicoletta asked Jaxon, ignoring Kate again.
Jaxon however, deferred answering the question as he looked to Kate to decide. “Kate, would you like champagne?”
“Sure,” Kate gave him a hint of an appreciative smile and then she gave the intrusive woman the same icy stare she had just received.
Nicoletta didn't seem bothered by Kate's obvious dislike for her, nor was she phased that Kate was even sitting there. She purposefully bent low to pop the champagne, practically shoving her chest into Jaxon's eye-line as she did it. Kate might have stormed out of the restaurant due to the woman’s utter disregard for her but Jaxon seemed unaffected and uninterested in the woman’s obvious attempt to get his full attention.
Nicoletta poured a finger full of champagne into a glass, for Jaxon to taste. He tipped the contents into his mouth. He had his eyes fixed on Kate’s the entire time.
“Perfect,” he answered in a low seductive voice. Kate dropped her head feeling slightly embarrassed and if she was honest she was also turned on, because she knew he wasn’t just talking about the champagne. Nicoletta hadn’t noticed though and she gave Jaxon another one of those dazzling smiles as she filled his glass and then—almost reluctantly—she filled Kate's.
“Shall I order you the usual tonight?” Nicoletta asked Jaxon, standing with her backside in front of Kate's face. This woman was a real piece of work Kate thought.
“Not right now, Nikki, maybe in a few minutes. I will let you know when we are ready.”
Kate chose not to let the nickname bother her; although it likely meant he knew “Nikki” rather well. Anyway, she really didn’t want to think about that now. She hoped that Nicoletta would get the message and leave them alone.
Based on the frown on her face as she walked off, Kate could tell that Nikki wasn't pleased and it gave Kate a sense of smug satisfaction to see Jaxon send her away casually without hesitation. Kate never imagined herself as the catty jealous type, but women were like piranhas around Jaxon and she was quite certain that this particular woman was no exception. Kate firmly believed if the opportunity presented itself, Nicoletta would try to shove her chest in his face again if she could—or any other part of her body for that matter. Despite the fact the Kate was clearly with him.
“Hey is something wrong?” Jaxon picked up on the negative vibe.
“What? No of course not. I think I’ll check the menu to see what I’m going to order.”
Kate picked up the one page menu in front of her putting an end to the conversation with herself, deciding that Nicoletta—or Nikki—was not going to ruin her evening. She was not going to spend the remainder of the evening brooding because this woman, who could easily be Playboy's Miss January, was flirting with her date. After all, he hadn’t even seemed to notice or if he had, he didn't let on.
“I'm sorry about Nikki,” he muttered. So he had noticed. “Sometimes she can come on a bit strong, but she's harmless.” If he really believes that, he’s delusional. Nicoletta is far from harmless.
“Does she come on to you like that every time you come here with women, or does she normally save that for when you are alone?” Kate could hear a bit of vehemence in her voice and she wished she hadn't asked.
“Kate, are you jealous?” he teased.
“What?” she said, trying desperately not to look embarrassed. “No, I'm not jealous.”
She was jealous though, and he probably knew it. He cocked an eyebrow at her. She knew he didn't believe her.
“Okay fine, but I wouldn't call it jealousy. It just pissed me off more than anything,” she said. “I mean really, she couldn't have attempted to be even a little subtle?”
Jaxon pondered that in his mind for a minute. She had no idea what he was thinking; his face was expressionless. It worried her. Was jealousy a deal breaker?
“I'll be back in a minute,” he said, before leaving her alone at the table.
She royally screwed up. She should have just kept her mouth shut. Now he was going to think that she was taking their relationship too seriously.
Jaxon returned to the table a few minutes later, accompanied by a man wearing a similar type of outfit to Nicoletta, except he was wearing pants instead of a skirt —all black.
He looked to be in his fifties with beautiful skin and large dark eyes, like Antonio and Nikki. He was also Italian.
“Kate, I would like you to meet Vincenzo Di Toullio. He is the owner of the restaurant."
Kate got to her feet and Vincenzo leaned in and kissed her on both cheeks in turn.
“Pleased to meet you, Bella,” he said in his thick Italian accent. “I would like to apologize for my niece Nicoletta's behavior.”
Kate was taken by surprise that Jaxon had made a point of telling the owner about Nikki's behaviour, and pissed that he’d brought another person into the situation. She wasn't sure if she wanted to kick Jaxon, or kiss him, for making such a fuss.
“Can I start you both with a little antipasto?” Vincenzo asked, interrupting Kate’s thoughts.
“That would be great,” Jaxon answered as he sat down again.
Vincenzo left for the kitchen and Kate still wasn't sure what to say to Jaxon at this point.
“I'm sorry about Nikki,” he apologized again. “I didn’t expect it.”
“Well I’m not surprised,” Kate replied. “You seem to have that effect on women.”
Jaxon made a face as if he had no idea what she was talking about. Kate wasn’t going to explain it to him.
“I can't say I blame her, though. You do look pretty hot tonight.”
The corner of Jaxon’s mouth pulled up into a smile. Before he could say anything, Vincenzo returned with a generous serving of complimentary antipasto. The platter was made up of an assortment of meats, cheeses, olives, pickled vegetables and some pieces of cut figs. It looked very appetizing and, by this time, Kate was starving.
Kate finished off the last piece of cheese; and though she was already full, a waiter placed another platter of warm soft bread on the table between them.
“Gosh, I think I ate too much,” she confessed. “I'm not sure if I have room for the pasta I ordered."
“We could have them wrap it up and we can take it home,” he suggested and there was a deliciously sexy undertone in his voice.
“No, it's okay. Aren't you hungry?” She was teasing him now.
“Oh I am,” he declared. “It’s not for pasta.”
Kate giggled. “Okay, let’s go, but I need to use the ladies room first.”
He nodded, getting up from the table with her. “I'll show you to the ladies room and then I'll find Vincenzo and let him know we are taking the food to go.”
Stopping in front of the door of the ladies room, Kate noticed Nikki was watching her and Jaxon from a distance. Her face was twisted into a harsh scowl and somehow she didn't look quite so beautiful anymore.
“Thanks, I’ll meet you at the front entrance.” Kate stood on her tip toes giving him a chaste kiss on the lips, hoping Nikki was still watching. She turned to walk away, but Jaxon held her by the waist and pulled her back against him.
“Not so fast. You can't just tease me like that and walk away.”
“Yes I can,” she said showing him her most wickedly seductive grin she could summon then she scooted away from him and disappeared into the bathroom.
Having finished her business, Kate began applying some gloss to her lips when the door opened and Jaxon walked in. She heard a click and realized he locked the door behind him.
Oh my God! She could tell what was on his mind, by the heated loom he gave her. What was worse, she was going to let him do it.
“Turn around,” he demanded. The Alpha male was back. “Put your hands on the counter and spread your legs.”
Kate complied immediately, and there wasn’t a lick of hesitation.
Jaxon pressed his hard length against her backside as he reached around and undid the button and zipper of her pants. He pushed the fabric of her underwear aside and placed a finger inside her.
“Of course you are ready” he said, almost to himself. “You are always so wet for me.”
He yanked her pants down to her ankles and then opened his own fly. He cupped her bottom in his hand and pushed it into the air so he could have better access to her entrance, then he slammed into her. He found her sensitive nub with his fingers, and began rubbing it in a circular motion as he continued to fuck her. His hot breath blew on her neck and she could hear his heavy labored breathing close to her ear. It drove her to the edge quicker than she ever expected.
“Fuck, Kate,” he said breathlessly. “You amaze me.”
“Yeah,” she wheezed, “well you amaze me too.”
He put more pressure on her nub, picking up the pace of both his touch and his thrusting. He bit into her shoulder through her shirt.
“Come with me, Kate,” he whispered in breathless anticipation.
Suddenly the room tilted on its axis, and she saw nothing but spots, as she was lost in the moment of ecstasy.
Once it was all over, Jaxon pulled away. “God, I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me, Kate. I have never lost control like that before,” he said, buttoning up his fly. “I just wanted you so bad.”
Kate looked in the mirror. Her hair was in shambles, her forehead was sweaty, and her pants lay in a puddle at her feet. She had just been thoroughly fucked in a public restroom and she would do it all over again if given the chance. She was becoming a harlot. Kate picked up a piece of paper towel from the holder on the counter and attempted to turn on the faucet but Jaxon covered her hand with his.
“No,” he said. “Leave it.”
Kate wheeled around and looked at him with confusion. “What? Why?”
“Leave it. I want that reminder of what we just did to linger a little longer on your skin.”
“Okay,” she agreed, thinking it was strange and kinky but willing to do it if it made him happy. She was going to shower when she got home anyway. She pulled up her pants leaving the sticky evidence of what they did on her skin as he had asked.
“I'll go check on our food,” he said, kissing her on the top of the head. “I'll meet you out front.”
“Okay,” Kate went back to the mirror to fix her hair and wipe the sweat from her brow.
She left the bathroom smiling; she couldn't help herself. She should have been mortified, but instead she loved knowing what they had just done. It was so naug
hty, so hot. Before she realized it, Kate walked right into Nikki. She had obviously been waiting for her
“I suppose you think you’re special,” she snapped.
“Excuse me?”
Nikki put her hands on her hips in a huff. “I know what you were doing with him in there. What I don't understand is, why you?”
Did this woman really have no shame? It was kind of pathetic really. But instead of being angry, Kate actually felt sorry for her.
“Look Nikki, I have no idea what your past history is with Jaxon and I'm really sorry that our relationship bothers you that much.”
“Relationship???” Nikki repeated with venom. “You think you are special? Do you realize that you are the third woman he’s brought for dinner here in the past seven days. He fucked me in that bathroom too, you know…just last week.”
Kate was astonished and angry. If it was true, and she had a sinking feeling that it was, then how could he do something like that to her? How could he act like he had never done that kind of thing before? Had those women been around before or after he slept with her the first time? “Maybe you weren't all that good,” Kate spat out, “because if you were, I highly doubt he would have come looking for me.”
She probably should not have said that, but God! That bitch really was the straw that broke the camel’s back. She had to keep herself from falling apart as she ran out of the restaurant. With any luck Jaxon would still be waiting for the food and she could take a cab home before he even realized she was gone. Unfortunately, she slammed into him before she made it out the door.
“Kate?” Is something wrong?”
She didn’t answer, she was too angry, too hurt. She just glared at him.
“What’s wrong Kate? Is it what we did? God, I'm sorry, it was too much for you, wasn't it?”
He sounded genuinely concerned, but she knew now that was all an act.
“Yeah, I guess it was, but unlike you I have never done something like that before. I guess I should have known there was a reason the waitress was so obsessed with you. After all, her tactics seemed to have worked in the past. Were you thinking of her as you fucked me against the counter?”
